Default Problems with Maneuvering

Recently I have been having problems with my character not going where I want them to go. I'll be running to stage my character just out of agro range and they just barrel into the thick of it (and usually die as a result).

I use a Trackball Explorer for primary movement, but I know that's not the problem because it works fine when surfing or normal computer business and even the direction keys don't pick up on maneuvering right away. I've had it for 10 years or so, thought about replacing it, but no one is making them anymore and ebay has them listed for $120 - $135!!!

I did just upgrade my video card, if that could be an issue. I thought improving that would solve problems, not create new ones.

My last choice is to just uninstall and completely reload the whole game again. Maybe a driver was eliminated or modified (I don't know enough about computers to dig around and solve the problem on my own, hence the reason I'm posting this).

Any simple solutions would be helpful.

Hmm, odd issue, this one stumps me. It does sound like perhaps the game updates may have screwed with the driver associations between GW and your trackball (because of its age) I recommend you switch mice and see if it still happens (get a modern mouse, USB preferably)

Also, you could just hold down right click and move with the WASD keys. That is how I play.

Thanks

I really love my trackball; it's ergonomic to my hand, I have the buttons set for my gaming, and I can set it on my leg, lean back and enjoy the show. It shocked the shit out of me when I found out what they were going for on ebay. With that much demand for them (no less than 10 individual bids each) I'm surprised Logitec or Microsoft hasn't put them back on the market.

Do any of the USB joysticks work with GW? or should I try for a multifunction mouse?

Give this mouse a whirl, I adore mine. Traded a Logitech G9 for it, and I have to say, very impressed with it despite it being a Microsoft mouse (which I have always loathed...)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826105093

That is the OEM version, which will save you over 10 dollars. Well worth 50 bucks. Custom button configs that can even memorize keyboard + mouse macros into the programmable keys. 400-2000dpi, with 3 options to change on the fly (you can adjust the settings for each dpi quick change button instantly as well), and a great weigh set that helps balance the mouse (I use 30g of weight because I like my mouse heavy) The Sidewinder is HUGE though, so be aware of that (you are probably used to that from using trackball though)

To all those too lazy to look at the link to see what it looks like, ascetically, here ya go.

I have that mouse and I love it.

What I didn't like was the mystery button with no documentation - turns out it sets up macros on the fly. totally lost control of GW until I worked out what I had done. Oh, and also the button on the top that opens the mouse options program - it doesn't.

Minor quibbles - it's a great mouse

I use something that is somewhat similar, it has the on-the-fly DPI adjustment and weight cartridge, the Logitech G5, 2007 version with the two extra buttons instead of 1, opposed to its older counterpart.

It's pretty nice, I've gotten used to it and love how smooth it is and all, can say I happily spent my 50$ on it with no regrets. (This is even after I spilled a full glass of water on it, and it lived.)

If you are running Vista, it opens the Games menu. If you are on XP, it most certainly does open Intellipoint 6.2.

I liked the G5, but it wasn't responsive enough in high jerk FPS games like CS:S and Unreal 3, or Quake Wars, TF2, Doom 3, and especially FEAR 1. The laser couldn't deal with massive acceleration. That is why I love the Sidewinder... it can even outprocess the mighty G9, but the G9 does glide easier, like it floats on air. That is my ONLY complaint with the Sidewinder from MSFT, even with the Teflon feet, it just doesn't glide nearly as well. Otherwise, for my big hands, this thing is 100x better. The G9 reports more often, but yet the Sidewinder has faster image processing. So basically, the G9 is a bit more responsive (not by a really noticeable amount), but its movement is noticeably smoother, especially in things like Photoshop CS3.

I just hated the G9's tiny design. They needed to make the G9 like a wired version of the MX Revolution in design, but with enhanced features for gaming gurus. The MX Revolution is gorgeous, use it at work (when I actually do go to the office... which hasn't been in 2 months)

Mine doesn't even open the games menu - and it's not configurable. Ah well - I never use the games folder anyway

Well at any rate, this is way better than the other cheap mouses around here.. I can't stand using the other computers sometimes, the mouses just feel so slow even if you boost the pointer speed.. I think it's something to do with DPI and how much they scale.

I don't like the G9 either though, but I have small hands as well, so a mouse that can fit that for me is generally ideal. The G5 was way bigger than what I am used to, but I've gotten used to it. (And thank god my wireless mouse is gone!)

So.. you work at home? That would certainly be a luxury, probably something I can only dream of right now.

This is what I have used for the past two years...

On another note, if you are looking for a really good cheap trackball, go with this

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...3572&CatId=540

You would be surprised at how it perfoms. This would be fine for guildwars.

Do you have Intellipoint 6.2 installed? If not, you are missing a large chunk of the Sidewinder's amazing features.

Here ya go Snoggy, lololol, snoggy! I remember you having 64bit Vista right? If not, let me know.

No, I know the issue. You need to allow ipoint.exe to activate at startup. If it doesn't, the button won't function. It just happened to me when I ended ipoint.exe
